NEWS: Sourcefire’s new SSL Appliance
Sourcefire, the company created by the creator of Snort (Martin Roesch), has launched a new SSL Appliance that allows Sourcefire IPS to inspect SSL traffic, and block malware usually protected by the SSL encryption. The appliance decrypts the SSL traffic before exposing it to the IPS, which can optionally send the traffic back to the appliance for re-encryption.
SSL is the leading form of data encryption used by companies around the world to safeguard their communications, but for many organizations this has also created a significant hole in their protection efforts. With the SSL Appliance, Sourcefire is addressing this security blind spot. And by using separate purpose-built hardware for our SSL and IPS capabilities, the Sourcefire IPS can inspect and block malicious encrypted traffic without impacting IPS performance.
