A plea to all UK MPs: listen to your constituents

October 20, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

Cameron said a petition of more than 100,000 signatures would qualify for a debate in the Commons. The people responded with a demand for a referendum on Europe. But we’re not getting a debate, we’re getting a non-debate. Both Cameron and Clegg are threatening three-line whips to deny the people a referendum (for non-Brits, a one-line whip means ‘do what we tell you’; a two-line whip means ‘do what we tell you or else’; and a three-line whip means ‘do what we tell you or get your political balls ripped off’).

I call on all UK MPs to debate this issue properly and to show those political balls. If you listen to anyone, listen to the will of the people, and not the bully boy undemocratic political machine. At the very least, debate it properly and vote according to your conscience.
